I was delighted to win the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling.
My paper was called ‘Dynamic Syuzhets: Writing and Design Methods for Playable Stories’ and has been published here.
It compared and contrasted techniques that negotiate narrative and player/audience agency in immersive theatre and video games.
ICIDS is the premier annual gathering of developers, practitioners and theorists presenting and sharing the latest innovations, insights and techniques in the expanding field of interactive storytelling and the technologies that support it. It brings together a dynamic and interdisciplinary community in narratology, computer science, the arts, and interactive and immersive technologies, working across artistic projects, interactive documentaries, games, assistive technologies, edutainment, pedagogy, museum science, advertising and entertainment.
